About Avy and Pop's World
Creating Change, One Activity at a Time...
In 2007, after being diagnosed with a disability, our Executive Director, Avy, faced tremendous challenges. Despite being highly educated and experienced, she encountered discrimination and was often underestimated simply because of one word—“disabled.” Society’s labels made others overlook her abilities, her drive, and her brilliance.
Out of these experiences, Avy & Pop’s World was born—a warm, inclusive space where disadvantaged and disabled youth and adults can express their creativity, gain confidence, and prove that disability does not mean inability. It simply means different—and still ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. We call ourselves THE PRISM SQUAD! because a prism is one of the few things in nature that takes "ordinary" light and reveals the full, vibrant spectrum hidden inside it. We are proud to donate 100% of our proceeds to our sister 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Humble Healing Hands, which provides which funds our mission and also provides vital support to those in need. Every cookie you purchase and every dollar you donate directly helps us break the stigma around disability and build opportunities for empowerment and growth.
Our current goal is to raise $50,000 to open Avy & Pop’s World —a welcoming space where participants can develop their talents, explore their passions, and show the world that even slightly broken crayons can still color beautiful pictures.

To ensure that all disadvantaged and/or disabled individuals have a safe space to nurture their talents and to be able to express themselves without fear of judgement or being made to feel like they are not deserving of the same respect as everyone else. Our volunteers embody the mission of Humble Healing Hands. 100% of our volunteers are local Eastern NC residents with direct lived experience, including parents of children with disabilities. 60% of our team identifies as racial or ethnic minorities, and 40% are individuals with disabilities, providing vital representation for our youth. This 100% local, peer-led structure ensures our services are rooted in the authentic needs of the families we serve every day.
